Kick Fear in the Face
Have you ever experienced that aching in your soul to try something new? A little nudge within saying… “Hey you, how ‘bout you give that a shot?” Chances are, if you’re anything like me, you’ve told that annoying little voice to sit down and be quiet. Nobody has time for that crazy foolishness. (You know I’m right…right?) I totally get it.
Many times in my life I’ve been told to be quiet. I’ve been told that I don’t know what I’m doing or talking about. Sometimes it’s just an electric atmosphere of knowing that “this is NOT the time to bring up these crazy dreams of mine.”
Dreams. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? Those things you hide deep in the corners of your heart. Maybe you forgot they were hiding in there. Maybe you wish they would go away…after all, if you have dreams and chase them..well, it takes a special kind of crazy.
Sometimes these little “ideas” come and go. (I.e. “I would love to zip-line, but I would NEVER.”) Maybe it’s a little bigger than that. Maybe it’s stepping out into a bold, new career. Maybe you or your spouse were thrown into a new job virtually overnight much to your dismay (and excitement?) Perhaps, you were called to something bolder in faith like the mission field, much like my dear cousin Rachel who sold everything down to the last drop of coffee in her Keurig before boarding a plane, and trading her first class life in for that of third- world service. (More on that later.)
What are the dreams you’ve buried in your soul, my friends? What adventures are you longing for that you are afraid to speak out loud for fear of judgment? Still too much for you to handle? Ok, then.
Allow me to go first.
A while back, God nestled a little egg inside of me. I could feel this insatiable desire to write. Write anything. I would write in journals. I would write lists. I would write letters. I Just had to get the flippin’, words out and on to paper before I would explode. But then He told me to venture out in faith a little more. He told me to write for other people. He asked me to trust Him, and little by little, that shell began to crack. (Obedience is a work in progress.) But here I am. And Here you are. Words are uniting our paths and creating a story that I would never have envisioned for myself. But God knew.
Much like He knows your heart. He knows your dreams. And I believe that He wrote each of those desires within you when He knitted you together in your mother’s womb… “For such a time as this.”
Friend, dare to be adventurous. Dare to step out in faith. Say Yes to God. And watch His beautiful plans unfold for your life. I bet you’ll be surprised at the outcomes.
So go ahead..do the zip line. Start the new business. Start a blog. Write a book. Order that grande mocha latte with double espresso and kick fear in the face, my friend. Haven’t you heard? He’s a liar.
And just in case your feeling those butterflies unsettled in your stomach like me right now? I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” Eleanor Roosevelt
